  • 25 x 18 mm cabochons featuring mixed red, grey, blue, yellow, and black organic patterned Fordite with pops of white.
  • Fordite (sometimes called Detroit agate) was formed one layer at a time as automotive paint accumulated on the metal racks that transported cars through the paint shop. Over decades, the layers hardened with repeated exposure to high heat during the curing process, making it possible to cut jewelry grade cabochons from this unusual piece of history.
  • The alternating layers of vivid color in each piece provide a unique glimpse into the past. The colors can be used to identify and date the origin of the material. On average, our Fordite is around 65 years old, from Dearborn, Michigan.
  • Each Fordite pattern and coloring is naturally unique and may differ slightly than the image, though the overall shape and color balance will be similar.
  • This listing includes 1 cabochon similar to the item images.
