The blue to blue-green variety of Beryl, known as Aquamarine, is a hexagonal crystal mineral with vitreous luster. Aquamarine gets its name from the Latin words for ‘water of the sea’ and its coloration is due to iron impurities within the Beryl. This popular gemstone is the birthstone for March and can be found throughout the world. The largest cut Aquamarine, the Dom Pedro, weighs over 2 kilograms.
